Tia Carrigan (also known as This Bird) is the artist behind the Rufous Street Public Art project. Tia lives and works in Pomona, in the Noosa Hinterland, just a short drive from Peregian. When she’s not painting murals, Tia owns and operates her florist and creative studio, called This Bird.
Located on Reserve Street in Pomona, This Bird is a working art studio, floristry and shop full of fun, unique and colourful items created by Tia Carrigan.
The concept behind the creative studio is about bringing together all Tia’s creative passions into one space for customers to source organically created, one-of-a-kind floral arrangements, gifts and art work, plus murals!

This Bird aims to create joy, through colour, bold pattern and large scale art. With this overarching intention in mind, the vision for the Rufous Street Public Art Project is one that engages children and families, creating engagement in the present moment, one that is bright and bold while also maintaining discretion and not detracting from the open plan space, and one that educates and highlights the beauty of our natural flora and fauna.
‘Grounded’ is a public art project about stopping and looking down (being grounded in the present moment), taking the time to play (within and around the ground mural), being aware and educated (learning of the ground parrot and local birds and flowers) and ultimately, inspiring joy.
The Eastern Ground Parrot (Pezoporus wallicus) is a secretive bright green, ground dwelling parrot which is seldom seen. It is listed as a vulnerable species in Queensland and its habitat is coastal heath, with patchy distribution along the Noosa and Sunshine Coast Shires. The Peregian area is in the middle of the ground parrot’s stretch of habitat along the coast.
